He was president of the National Indigenous Organization of Colombia from 1993 to 1998 and spiritual advisor at same organization in 2022. Coordinator of the Indigenous Education Program, professor, and pioneer of the degree in Mother Earth Pedagogy at the Universidad de Antioquia. \nHe was recognized as a \u201cMaster of Wisdom\u201d by UNESCO and as one of the 10 most relevant personalities in Colombia for the Country Consultation Process for the Development of the Ten-Year Education Plan (2006-2016). Recognized as one of the 30 personalities for the \u201cBest Leaders of Colombia\u201d award by the joint initiative of Semana Magazine and the Leadership and Democracy Foundation, with the support of Telefon\u00eda.\n During his role as Advisor to the Colombian Minister of Education (2022-2025), he succeeded in having the Indigenous Education System (SEIP) recognized and  officially institutionalized.
